Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 26)-It was a nail biter at the NYTEX Sports Centre Wednesday evening as the Brahmas beat the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 2-1 in a shootout.

There were several offensive opportunities between the rivaled teams in the first period yet the game remained scoreless thanks to the men between the pipes; former Mudbug David Cacciola for Texas and Ken Carroll for Bossier. The Brahmas outshot the Mudbugs 11-8 in the opener.

After the intermission, there was a clean sheet of ice to open the second but the play on the ice was gritty. Three roughing penalties were called, two going against the Brahmas. Despite the penalty plagued period, the score remained 0-0 due to the stellar play by goaltenders Cacciola and Carroll.

Things finally opened up for the Brahmas at the 17:24 mark in the third, as forward Jason Deitsch beat Ken Carroll for his tenth point of the season in just his fifth game. Scott Sheppard and Grant Jacobsen were rewarded with the assists. Cacciola was looking for a perfect game, but 'Bugs forward Brett Smith ruined all hopes for a shutout when he scored a powerplay goal with five minutes remaining in the game.

With the onset of a goaltending duel, the game was forced to a shootout, the first for the Brahmas for the season. The shootout went five players deep for each side, but it was a Pete Rouleau shot that gave Texas the 2-1 victory and the five game home winning streak.

Cacciola faced 42 shots, letting in only one to improve to 3-3 for the season. Texas will wrap up the mini home stand this Friday against the Oklahoma City Blazers for a 7:05 PM faceoff. All military personnel, active and retired will receive half priced tickets at the Brahmas Box Office for the conclusion of "NYTEX Honors Military Night". Following the game will be a live game worn jersey auction for the fans. For ticket information or more details on the jersey auction please contact the Brahmas offices at (817) 336-4423.
