Jackalopes Blank Icerays, 4-0

Sebastien Thinel scored twice and Juha Toivonen made 19 saves for his first professional shutout as the Odessa Jackalopes beat the Corpus Christi IceRays 4-0 at the American Bank Center on Saturday Night. The IceRays loss was their first in three games on their six-game home stand and dropped their season record to 5-7-1. The Jackalopes improved their record to 9-5-2 and a remarkable 9-1 record on the road. The IceRays are home on Friday and Saturday Night to host the Mississippi RiverKings at the American Bank Center. .

The Jacks got the only goal of the first period when Thinel took a centering feed and redirected it past Kris Tebbs tallied at 11:03 of the opening frame. The Jacks outshot IceRays 17-9 in the period.

In the second period the Jacks padded their lead with a pair of goals. At 2:37 the Jackalopes made it 2-0 when Jean Bourbeau raced behind the IceRays defense and caught up to a loose puck then converted a shot from the outside edge of the slot for a shorthanded goal. Later in the frame Thinel took a centering feed and buried his second goal of the game at 12:19. The Jacks outshot the IceRays 11-3 in the middle frame of period.

The Jacks got the only goal of the frame as Mike Lesperance scored the second shorthanded goal for Odessa when he was sprung on a breakaway and tallied for his third point of the game at 4:26. Toivonen and the Jackalopes held on to complete the shutout effort and win their second straight game.

Tebbs (4-4-1) took the loss making 33 saves on 37 shots while Toivonen (7-3-1) earned the win with 19 saves on as many shots. The IceRays power play went 0-8 while the Jackalopes went 0-6 on the man advantage. The IceRays were outshot by the Jacks 37-19.

The IceRays remain at the American Bank Center to continue their six-game home stand, continuing on Friday and Saturday Night when the IceRays host the Mississippi RiverKings for a pair of games, both at 7:05pm.
