Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 30)- It takes only one shot to score a goal, and Texas foward Tyler Skworchinski learned that in the extra period Wednesday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre as the Brahmas lone shot in overtime helped them prevail over Oklahoma City 5-4.
The Oklahoma City Blazers came out in penalty trouble, giving the Brahmas three opportunities on the powerplay. On the third call Jordan Cameron was able to capitalize with a pass from Mike Vellinga, marking his 19th goal of the season. Just thirty-three seconds later Blazers own Michael Kaye was able to put the puck past Texas goaltender David Cacciola to even the game.
The second period belonged to Brahmas defenseman Kevin McLeod as he scored two goals on Blazers netminder Jason Wolfe. His first came on the powerplay at the 3:07 mark and the second an even strength goal at the midway point in the period. The Brahmas are 4-0 when McLeod scores an even strength goal. Twenty six Blazer shots later the second ended with Texas on top 3-2.
Skworchinski shined early in the third as he had a scoring opportunity broken up by Oklahoma City seconds within the period. Despite the miss, he made up for it later with his ninth goal of the season from Jordan Cameron and Chris Thompson. Cacciola continued his run with pad saves saving 12 of 14 in the period, but it was not enough to finish the cool off the Blazers in regulation.
The overtime period ended as fast as it began as gritty forward Skworchinski scored the game winner within 11 seconds making it a 5-4 final. Anders Strome assisted on the goal, increasing his consecutive point streak to seven games.
The Brahmas next game is Saturday, February 2 against the Colorado Eagles at the NYTEX Sports Centre at 7:05 PM.
