
Bucks All The Rage In 4-3 Shootout Win

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rocky Mountain Rage 4-3 in a shootout Wednesday night, in front of 3,097 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center.
With the win the Bucks snapped their two-game home losing streak, and improve to 28-13-2 (58 points). The Bucks 58 points are third in the CHL , behind Bossier-Shreveport (61), and Rocky Mountain (60).
The shootout went to sudden death, and in the sixth round rookie Andrew Desjardins scored past Rage goaltender Scott Reid. The Rage then had a chance to tie the game, but Simon Watson was stopped by Bucks goaltender Dustin Traylen to give Laredo the win. Traylen, who stopped five of six Rage attempts in the shooot, improves to 17-6-1 in between the pipes. Chris Korchinski scored the first Laredo goal in the shootout.
The Bucks (17-5 at home) jumped out in front of the Rage as they netted a power-play goal at the 9:25 mark. Jeff Bes sent a rebound in from the right side of the crease past Rage goaltender Scott Reid. It was Bes' team-leading 27th goal of the season, with James Hiebert (24th), and Andrew Desjardins (25th) picked up assists on Bes' goal.
The Rage tied the game up at the 15:26 mark of the first period when Colt King stuffed in a rebound right in front of Bucks goaltender Dustin Traylen. It was King's 11th goal of the season.
The Bucks came out and outshot the Rage in the first 20 minutes 13-6.
Each team had two power-play chances in the first period, with the Rage going 0-2, and the Bucks cashing in on one-of-two. The Bucks had a five-on-three man advantage for 14 seconds in the period, but failed to score.
Laredo scored twice in the second period to take a 3-1 lead into the final 20 minutes.
The Bucks took a 2-1 lead at the 4:50 mark of the period, when Derek Legault scored his first goal as a Buck from the right side of the crease past Reid. Serge Dube and Gord Burnett picked up the assists. It was Burnett's first point as a Buck.
Laredo made it 3-1 with their second power-play goal of the game at the 14:17 mark of the period.
Dube sent in a shot from the right side of the crease past Reid off of a pass from Bes. It was Dube's seventh goal of the season, with Bes and Adam Rivet picking up assists.
The Rage (28-7-4, 60 points) outshot the Bucks in the second period 10-9.
Former Buck and current Rage captain Brent Cullaton was taken to the hospital near the end of the second period with a rib injury. No word on his status as of press time.
The Rage scored two goals in the first 4:17 of the third period to tie the game at 3-3.
Rocky Mountain cut the Bucks lead to 3-2 just 1:07 into the third period, when Nathan Rosychuk scored short-haned by Traylen.
The Rage would tie the game at 3-3 at the 4:17 mark of the third, when Scott Wray sent a rebound shot from the left circle high over Traylen's shoulder into the net. It was Wray's 24th goal of the season.
The Rage outshot the Bucks in the third period 11-6.
The overtime session saw both goaltenders set aside all of the shots they faced, with the Rage outshooting the Bucks 4-3.
The Rage came into the game with the league's best power-play unit, while the Bucks came in with the league's best penalty killing unit. Laredo's special teams won out, as the Rage went 0-6 with the man advantage.
Traylen stopped 28 of 31 Rocky Mountain shots in net, while Reid set aside 28 of 31 Bucks shots.
