Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (March 30)- Facing his former team, Coach Dan Wildfong and the Brahmas had no problem defeating the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in the first game in the series 3-1.
The Brahmas were off to a great start as former Mudbug Scott Sheppard's wristshot caught Bossier goaltender Jon DeCaro off guard at the 3:01 mark in the first from Tyler Skworchinski and Kevin Korol.
The offense didn't stop there as Brahmas regular season goal scoring leader Anders Strome unleashed a shot that found its way to the back of the net with less than two minutes -remaining in the period. The first ended with the Brahmas up 2-0 and outshooting the Mudbugs 15-13.
Texas found themselves in penalty trouble in the second, but goaltender David Cacciola was solid, killing all four Mudbug powerplays.
Cacciola's bid for a shutout was cut by Bossier's Tyrel Lucas midway through the third on the Mudbugs 29th shot of the evening.
Texas was able to get on the board again when Anders Strome scored his second goal of the night on a fluke play that had Mudbugs netminder DeCaro kick the puck behind him to put the game away.
The Brahmas will play Game 2 tomorrow night in Bossier for a best of 7 series before returning back home Friday, April 4 at the NYTEX Sports Centre for Game 3 at 7:05 PM. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas Box Office at (817) 336-4423.
