New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[ PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. ]-Saturday night the Scorpions played some of their best hockey all year and grabbed a 5-2 victory over Arizona. The Southern Conference Semifinals are tied at one.

Friday night, special teams played a big role in the Sundogs victory. Tonight, in the first period, special teams play gave the Scorpions the lead.

Arizona got on the board first. Alex Leavitt found Cory Urquhart alone in front of the Scorps' net for his third goal of the playoffs.

With the Scorpions on their first power play of the game, Aaron MacInnis' slap shot flew past goalie Marco Emond, tying the game. MacInnis helped put the Scorpions ahead when he cleared the puck with his team was shorthanded. Konrad Reeder raced down the ice and scored a wraparound goal, giving the Scorpions their first lead of the game.

New Mexico extended their lead early in the second period. Vladimir Hartinger found the net while the Scorpions were on a two-man advantage. Back to the power play went the Sundogs, but Mitch Stephens made a beautiful move near the net and scored his first professional playoff goal. It would be the last goal Emond would give up on the night, as he was pulled in favor of Rob McVicar.

Arizona joined the special teams excitement with a goal of their own. Urquhart jumped on a rebound and scored his second goal of the contest 6:54 into the middle period.

A little over two minutes later, New Mexico jumped back to the three goal edge. Chris Robertson took a perfect pass from Reeder and lifted the puck into the net.
