Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (August 5)- The Brahmas welcome rookie forward Mike Towns to town Friday afternoon as they announced their newest signing for the 2011-12 campaign.

Towns joins the Brahmas following a successful collegiate career at Adrian College, including serving as the captain for the Bulldogs his junior and senior years. The Surrey, BC native compiled 60 points (24 G, 36 A) in 103 games with his best offensive season occurring in 2009, where he posted a 20 point effort.

The6-foot-4, 220 pound forward became a special teams specialist for Adrian and helped the Bulldogs win four consecutive Harris Cup titles (Div III Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association champion) and MCHA regular season titles. Adrian College became the fastest team to record 100 victories in the NCAA during his tenure.

Prior to playing at the collegiate level, Towns played junior hockey for the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). As a member of the Vees, the 25 year old grinder registered 45 points (18 G, 27 A) and 406 PIM in 152 games. His first season of Junior hockey came in 2003 when he signed with the Penticton Panthers (BCHL), collecting 7 points (3 G, 4 A) in 28 games.

Brahmas head coach Dan Wildfong explained why the signing of Towns would be beneficial to his team.

"Based on Mike's reputation, he has the grit that we need to make it difficult for opponents to get an edge. He is a tough kid to play against, and his style of play will fit nicely in our system," said Wildfong.

Towns is the fifth player announcement by the Brahmas, joining defensemen Jim Burichin and Ross Rouleau, forward Alex Curran and goaltender Steve Silverthorn. The Brahmas 2011-12 season will open in October, but season tickets are available now, including flexible packages.
