Lone Star Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Lone Star Brahmas are pleased to announce that they have signed 2001 goaltender Brandon Benson to a tender for the 2019-20 season.
The Blaine, Minnesota native is currently playing with the Sioux Falls Power of the NAPHL, putting up a 3-2-2 record through his first seven games. He is among league leaders in GAA (1.27) and save percentage (.955) and is tied for the lead in shutouts with 3 on the year. "I think my current season couldn't be going any better. I would like to thank Sioux Falls Power for developing me and Lone Star for the opportunity to play at the next level," Benson said.
Benson chose to tender with Lone Star after a visit to Brahmaland showed him just what the organization had to offer. "I decided to tender with the Brahmas after I was down in Dallas for a showcase this year and I got to see their amazing facilities and the atmosphere they have there," he said.
The Brahmas' strong track record with developing goaltenders couldn't have hurt either, with two goalies drafted to the NHL in recent years and many others committing to Division I NCAA programs.
The 6-foot-4, 180-pound goaltender describes himself as hard-working but under control in the net, and he's looking forward to bringing his game to Lone Star. "I think my puck playing skills and competitiveness can bring a lot to the team next year," Benson said.
Brahmas Assistant Coach Justin Hale agreed. "Brandon is a high quality player and person. He has good size and good athleticism from the goaltending position and we are excited to welcome him aboard!"
*A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 4, 2019. *
