Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (April 21)-With their backs against the wall the Brahmas were able to overcome the Eagles 5-4 in Game 6 causing a series decisive Game 7 scheduled for Wednesday. The win gave Colorado their first loss of the playoffs at home.
Texas came out firing looking to gain the game's first goal in the opening period where they have proven to be most lethal in the postseason. Anders Strome was able to give the Brahmas the lead they were looking for as he added his second goal in the series from a Mark Carragher pass at the 6:55 mark.
Five minutes later the Eagles hashed things up when defenseman Les Borsheim slapped a shot past Brahmas goaltender Brett Jaeger for his third goal in the playoffs. The teams left the ice for the intermission tied 1-1 and Texas outshooting Colorado 14-13.
A 2-on-1 breakaway with Captain Blair Manning leading the attack helped Texas regain the lead as his pass found rookie forward's Tyler Skworchinski stick that sent the puck flying past Eagles netminder Sebastien Laplante for a 2-1 lead.
Colorado answered back when the Eagles' 18th shot of the evening by Brad Williamson beat Jaeger :37 seconds later.
Scott Sheppard, coming off of a hat trick in Game 5, continued to have the hot hands when he took a feed from Manning and Skworchinski to put the Brahmas up 3-2.
The Brahmas padded the lead with Strome's second goal of the night on the powerplay. Jordan Cameron and Kevin McLeod had the assists to put Texas up 4-2. Texas took a 4-2 lead into the locker room in the second intermission and outshot the Eagles 11-9.
The Brahmas were looking to improve their flawless 7-0 record of leading after two periods in the postseason as the final period began, but the Eagles were looking to break their 0-2 record after trailing 40 minutes as Erik Adams scored to put the Eagles within one shot.
Strome finished things with his third goal of the night and first hat trick in the playoffs with a powerplay goal from Jordan Cameron and Craig Minard. The goal turned out to be the game winner despite a Colorado comeback attempt with a goal from center Ed McGrane with just over a minute remaining in the game.
Brahmas Assistant Coach Forbes MacPherson believed the victory was due to the effort the Brahmas gave in Game 6.
"Like we've been saying, many believed we were out when we were down 3-1, but we didn't expect anything less than achieving our goal. We've worked hard and are proud of our players," MacPherson said.
The Eagles outshot the Brahmas 35-31 but Jaeger was able to put up some big saves to give Texas the victory. Game 7 in the Northern Conference Finals is set for Wednesday, April 23 in Colorado for an 8:05 PM start. The pivotal game can be seen online through CHL Network at http://www.nifty-tv.com/chl/.
