Bucks Lose Pivotal Game Five 2-1: Trail Series 3-2

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ- The Laredo Bucks fell to the Arizona Sundogs 2-1 Monday night in game five of the Central Hockey League's Southern Conference Finals, in front of 2,808 fans at Tim's Toyota Center. The Bucks trail the best of seven series three games to two and face elimination at home this weekend. Game six will be played at the LEC on Friday April 25th at 7:30pm. Arizona took a 2-1 lead with 8:00 left in the third period when Karl Sellan picked up a loose puck in the Bucks crease, and poked it by John Ceci. It was Sellan's second goal of the postseason.

The Bucks pulled Ceci for the final 1:15 of the game, but the Sundogs cleared the puck out three separate times to secure the win. Laredo was out shot in the third period 13-4, and for the game 35-31.

Rob McVicar won his second straight game against the Bucks, as he set aside 30 of 31 shots to improve to 6-0 in the playoffs.

Both teams jumped out of the gate in the first period playing fast paced hockey, but neither team lit the lamp to keep the game scoreless.

Laredo got into penalty trouble in the first 20 minutes, as they were whistled for 14 minutes of penalties. The Bucks penalty killing unit was strong though, as they killed off all four Sundogs power-plays in the first period.

The Bucks out shot the Sundogs in the first period 11-8.

Laredo took a 1-0 lead with 8:59 left in the second period as they struck with a hustle play behind the Sundogs net. Steve Simoes and Josh Patterson led a two-on-two rush into the Arizona end, Simoes sent a wrist shot towards the Sundogs net. Arizona goaltender Rob McVicar made the save as he knocked the puck behind the net. Simoes then tipped the puck over the top of the net and across the goal line. The tally was Simoes second goal of the playoffs, and his 14th career postseason goal Rookies Andrew Desjardins (4th) and Josh Patterson (1st) picked up assist on Simoes goal.

Laredo dodged a bullet at around the six minute mark of the period, when they killed off a four-on-three Arizona power-play.

The Sundogs tied the game up with a four-on-four with 1:54 left in the second period. Cory Urquhart took a pass on the left side of the ice from Alex Leavitt. on a two-on-one break. Urquhart sent a laser shot past John Ceci to tie the game. It was Uquhart's 19th goal of the playoffs.

The Bucks out shot the Sundogs in the second period 16-12.

Ceci suffered his first career postseason loss as he set aside 31 of 33 Arizona shots.

Each team came up empty on the power-play, Laredo went 0-3, while the Sundogs went 0-7.
