Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

Winger Robb Palahnuk had a natural hat trick to lead the Memphis RiverKings to a series clinching 6-3 win over the Ft. Worth Brahmas Tuesday night at the FWCC. The victory for Memphis advances the RiverKings to the CHL Northern Conference Finals against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs and ends the Brahmas 2001-2002 season.

The Brahmas started the game with predictable desperation for an elimination game. RiverKings goaltender Mark Richards made several good saves in the first five minutes of the game, specifically when he robbed rookie winger Brett Draney from the doorstep.

Following the Brahmas initial flurry, Palahnuk started his scoring spree at the 13:22 mark of the first period when he finished off an odd man rush with a shot from the left wing. The Toronto Maple Leafs signee came back just over five minutes later to score another goal from the left side to give the RiverKings a 2-0 lead after the first intermission.

Palahnuk then finished off his natural hat trick 6:32 into the second period when he scored on a breakaway. Following a timeout by Brahmas head coach Todd Lalonde, Ft. Worth tried to get back in the game. Center Peter Campbell scored goals at the 6:57 mark and the 9:08 mark of the second to bring Ft. Worth to within 3-2. After the Brahmas had several near misses for a game tying goal, the RiverKings quieted the small but boisterous crowd at the FWCC when winger Kahlil Thomas scored on a breakaway to restore the Memphis lead to 4-2 at the end of the second period.

Despite a gritty effort in the third period, the Brahmas could not rally. RiverKings captain Don Parsons scored a power play goal 38 seconds into the period to extend the Memphis lead to 5-2. Ft. Worth would respond with a shorthanded goal from center Jeff Bateman to make it 5-3, but any hopes for a Brahmas comeback were dashed when Memphis forward Brad Mueller scored on a breakaway at the 11:46 mark of the third.

RiverKings goaltender Mark Richards made 21 saves on 24 Ft. Worth shots to earn the win. Brahmas goaltender Kory Cooper allowed 6 goals on just 25 Memphis shots.

The best of seven Northern Conference Finals series between Memphis and Bossier-Shreveport will begin this Friday night in Memphis. The winner of that series will then advance to the CHL President's Cup Finals.

The Brahmas finished their 2001-2002 campaign with an overall record of 31-30-7 (regular season and playoffs). Season tickets for the 2002-2003 Brahmas season are now on sale. For more information, please contact the Brahmas office at (817) 336-4423.
