SERIES RECAP: The RiverKings lead the best of best of five series 2 games to 1. The first three games of this series were played on three consecutive nights last week. Last Thursday, March 21st, defenseman Luch Nasato scored two goals and assisted on one more to lead Memphis to a 7-4 win over the Brahmas. Ft. Worth bounced back the next night, Friday, March 22nd to defeat Memphis 3-1 behind goaltender Kory Cooper's 35 saves on 36 shots. Then on Saturday, March 23rd, as the series shifted back to Ft. Worth, the RiverKings scored five power play goals en route to a 7-1 thrashing of the Brahmas. The Brahmas must now win two games in a row over Memphis to prolong their season.
FORT WORTH NOTES: The Brahmas received a major assist yesterday from their NHL affiliate, the Dallas Stars. Dallas assigned center Jeff Bateman to Ft. Worth for tonight's critical Game 4. Bateman, a fourth round pick of the Stars in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, has split time this season with Ft. Worth and Utah (AHL).Forward Sean Hughes leads the Brahmas in playoff goals with 3.Defenseman Mike Tilson leads the team with three playoff assists.Brahmas captain Craig Johnson leads the entire CHL with 50 PIM.
MEMPHIS NOTES: Two players for Memphis, defenseman Luch Nasato and forward Michael Stastny, are tied for the CHL lead in playoff points with 8. Nasato has 3 goals and 5 assists while Stastny has 2 goals and 6 assists.Of the RiverKings 15 goals in this series, 8 of them have been scored on the power play.The two 7 goal games by Memphis in games one and three represent the franchise playoff high for goals scored in a game.CHL MVP Don Parsons has three goals in the series for Memphis.
NEXT UP FOR THE BRAHMAS: Should the Brahmas win tonight, the fifth and deciding game of this series would be played this Thursday, March 28th at the DeSoto Civic Center in Memphis. The game would be broadcast live on KTFW 92.1 FM beginning at 6:45 PM.
