Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

Left wing Chad Woollard had a goal and an assist and goaltender Dan Murphy stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced to lead the Fort Worth Brahmas to a 3-1 win over the New Mexico Scorpions Friday night at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Woollard's Brahmas' team leading 26th goal of the season 5:33 into the first period put Fort Worth on top 1-0. In the second period, the Brahmas extended their lead to 2-0 when left wing Martin Paquet scored a powerplay goal at the 17:08 mark.

Fort Worth controlled play for the majority of the game, and the Brahmas held the Scorpions off the scoreboard until the 8:18 mark of the third period when New Mexico's Aaron Schneekloth scored to pull the home team to within 2-1. The Brahmas stayed in control though, and did not allow the Scorps to get the tying goal. Fort Worth defenseman Mark Hynes provided the Brahmas with an insurance goal when he netted his second goal of the season with just 1:18 left in regulation.

Murphy's play was critical for the Brahmas, as he bounced back from a subpar performance this past Tuesday night in Tulsa with one of his strongest games of the season. The win for Murphy was his 15th of the year.

New Mexico netminder Miguel Beaudry took the loss for the Scorps, allowing the three Fort Worth goals on 46 shots.

The win for the Brahmas snaps a two-game road losing streak for the club and moves Fort Worth's record to 20-11-4 on the season. Fort Worth also picked up two valuable points in the Northern Conference playoff race. With 44 points, Fort Worth is three points ahead of the Tulsa Oilers for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Northern Conference.

The Brahmas will play game three of their current nine-game road trip on Saturday night, Jan. 22 when they take on the CHL's top team, the Colorado Eagles, at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado. Face off is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. CST.
