
Cotton Kings Beat Bucks 3-2 in Shootout

LAREDO, Texas â The defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks lost a 3-2 shootout decision to the Lubbock Cotton Kings in front of 5,741 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Former Bucks goalie Lance Leslie stopped 32 of 34 shots to get the win for the Cotton Kings. The Bucks do pick up a standings point to creep to within two points of second place in the Southeast Division at 17-14-2. Laredo finishes off the three-in-three weekend at Austin on Saturday. The Bucks return home on Wednesday against the Austin Ice Bats. The Bucks came out with some early scoring chances, but Lubbock goalie Lance Leslie was stellar keeping Laredo off the board with some terrific saves. The Cotton Kings cracked thru just after a power play chance expired. Forward Anders Strome, who won the Sherwood Accuracy Shoot-out at the LNB All-Star Skills Competition, ripped a hard wrist shot into the net low stick side at 7:39. Later in the period Strome redirected a shot from the left wall for a power play goal and his second of the game at 15:15 and a 2-0 Lubbock lead. Leslie stopped all 13 Bucks shots in the frame.
The Bucks went to work on the power play in the second period as they fought their way back in the game. Forward Mark Wires unleashed a one-timer from the top of the right circle that Leslie stopped, but Bucks forward James Hiebert picked the rebound out of mid-air and batted it home at 4:57. It was the seventh of the year for Hiebert. A little under two minutes later Bucks forward Adam Paiement cashed in on another power play chance by swatting in a rebound to tie the game at two goals at 6:40. It was the 15th goal of the year for Paiement.
Neither team was able to score in the third period and the game went to a shootout. The Cotton Kings scored on three of five shots, while the Bucks failed to score on their four chances. Forward Justin Keller registered the game winning goal in the shootout. FINAL SCORE Lubbock 3, Laredo 2 in a shootout .
Leslie beat the Bucks for the second time this season and improved to 15-8-2. Bucks goalie Jeremy Symington stopped 21 of 23 shots but took the hard luck loss to fall to 10-6-1. The Bucks were 2-3 on the power play, while Lubbock was 1-5.
