BALANCED BRAHMAS

The Brahmas' offense was the most-balanced team in Week 1 of the XFL. San Antonio ran 77 total plays rushing a league-high 39 times for a league-best 133 yards. The Brahmas threw the ball 36 times with 25 completions going for 207 yards. The Brahmas totaled 324 yards of total offense.

TWO-HEADED RUNNING TANDEM

Ballage rushed 24 times for 84 yards while Patrick gained 38 yards on 10 carries. Ballage has played in 53 NFL regular season games. He's rushed for 709 yards on 226 carries in his NFL career. Patrick, in seven NFL preseason games, has rushed 50 times for 241 yards.

SACK PARTY

San Antonio's pass rush produced the second-most sacks in Week 1 for the XFL. The Brahmas' five sacks was only second to Houston's eight sacks in their win over Orlando. Leading the sack party was reserve defensive end Mike Scott, who had two sacks against St. Louis. DB Ranthony Texada and LB Drew Lewis each had one sack while DT Kobe Smith and DE Mike Tverdov combined for a sack.

ROMO'S BIG DAY

Parker Romo registered the first points in San Antonio Brahmas' history with a 43-yard field goal in the first quarter. Romo went on to finish the 3-of-4 on field goal attempts with two from over 40 yards. His 48-yard field goal in the fourth quarter was the longest field goal in the XFL in Week 1. Romo was the only kicker to make a field goal from 40-plus yards going 2-of-2 from that range.

THE STANDARD IS THE STANDARD

San Antonio Brahmas Head Coach Hines Ward likes to say "The Standard is the Standard ‚¬Â, which is something he learned while he was with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It's a saying throughout that organization. Ward added some of that standard to the Brahmas roster. Besides linebackers coach Joey Porter, Ward manage to add five players who either played for the Steelers or experienced training camp or preseason. The most experienced former Steeler on the Brahmas is punter Brad Wing. Wing saw action in 17 games for the Black & Gold in 2014 as a starter. He also played in the 2014 Wildcard Game against the Ravens. Wing averaged 43.7 yards on 61 punts for the Steelers. His net was 38.6 yards per punt.

Other Brahmas learning about "The Standard ‚¬Â includes DE Delontae Scott, RB Kalen Ballage, DB Kameron Kelly,

FAMILY AFFAIR

Family ties run deep for a few members of the San Antonio Brahmas.

Cornerback Ryan Lewis is the older brother of linebacker Drew Lewis, who happens to have a twin brother Troy back home. Ryan and Drew are the sons of Brahmas' Director of Player Personnel, Will Lewis, who had a hand in creating the Seattle Seahawks Legion of Boom when he was VP of Football Operations from 2010-2012. He's also had a pretty good executive career in the NFL and playing career. Will played two years in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs before playing in the USFL and CFL. He was an executive in the NFL for 20 years.

Will's younger brother Tim, a well-known defensive coach in the NFL, is the co-defensive coordinator for the Arlington Renegades.

On top of it, the Lewis' cousin is ESPN analyst Louis Riddick and Buffalo Bills great Robb Riddick.

THE O-LINE CONNECTION

Starting center Luke Juriga is the son of Jim Juriga who was a starter along the offensive line for the Super Bowl XXIV Champion Denver Broncos. Jim Juriga played three seasons for the Denver Broncos from 1988-90. San Antonio Brahmas offensive line coach Pete Mangurian was hired by Denver Broncos Head Coach Dan Reeves in 1988 to coach Tight ends and H-Backs for his first job in the NFL. Mangurian became the Broncos O-Line coach in 1991. Fast forward to 2023, Mangurian finds himself coaching Jim Juriga's son, Luke.
