NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (January 21)- Despite a three goal effort from Scott Sheppard, Texas was unable to increase their lead by seven points in the Southeast standings over the Bucks. Instead, the lead is cut to four as Texas earns just one point with a 5-4 shootout loss in Laredo.
Sheppard netted his first two goals on his first two shots in the first period to give Texas the 2-0 lead. Brahmas goaltender, and the League's goalie of the week, Brett Jaeger gave up a powerplay goal late in the opening period to Igor Agarunov.
Laredo netminder Ryan Gibb could not get a handle on Sheppard's hot hand in the second period when the Brahmas leading goal scorer posted his first hat trick of the season. Six minutes later Tyler Skworchinski beat Gibb with assists from Matt Quinn and Marc Belanger at the 12:43 mark. Another Bucks powerplay closed the Brahmas lead to 4-2 seconds before the period concluded.
The Laredo Bucks rallied back in the final period with a pair of goals to even things up, sending the game into the extra period, and ultimately a shootout. Texas scorers could not convert on Gibb and Jaeger gave up two goals in the shootout to hand Texas the shootout loss.
Texas went 1 for 7 on the powerplay and were outshot 35-21.
The Brahmas (24-10-4) road trip continues this week as they travel to Amarillo to face the Gorillas for back to back games Friday and Saturday. Both games are set for 7 PM and can be seen free on the CHL Network at www.nifty-tv.com/chl/.
