Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
The Shreveport Mudbugs (5-1-1) dropped a tough one against the Lone Star Brahmas, 2-1 in OT Friday night at Nytex Sports Centre.
The Bugs got on the board early in the game when Garrett Steele ripped home his first goal of the season on the short side at 3:02 to give Shreveport a 1-0 lead. Gio Procopio and Chris Hedden earned the helpers on the tally. The Mudbugs squandered some chances later in the opening period as they were 0 for 3 on the powerplay. The Bugs out-shot the Brahmas, 19-6 after one period of play.
Both teams came up empty in the second period coupled with big saves from both goalies in Graham Burke for Lone Star and Cole Hudson from Shreveport. The Bugs led in SOG, 28-17 after two periods of play.
Lone Star tied the game just 90 seconds into the third period when Ryan Drkulec scored on an odd-man rush to tie the game 1-1. The game stayed tied heading into the overtime session.
In OT and on the PP, it was Joey Baez with space slapping in the GW goal :59 seconds in to lift the Brahmas to a 2-1 victory over the Mudbugs.
The loss snaps a Bugs' four-game winning streak, but Shreveport gets one point for their efforts.
The Mudbugs and Brahmas will conclude their two-game series tomorrow night at Nytex Sports Centre. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ¬â¹
