Brahmas Can't Hold Lead, Lose in SO to Gems

DAYTON, Ohio (December 22) - The Brahmas let a third-period lead slip away on Thursday for the second straight night, but were unable to come away with a victory this time as they lose 4-3 in a shootout to the Gems.
The Brahmas were first to score as Alex Curran beat Dayton goaltender, and former Brahma, Larry Sterling for his first goal of the season at the 5:19 mark of the first period. Four and a half minutes into the second period, Texas added to their lead when T.J. Fox scored a shorthanded goal on a two-on-one break. The Gems would get closer before the end of the second period though, as Damian Surma put Dayton on the board with his fifteenth goal of the season.
Texas went ahead 3-1 when T.J. Fox scored his second goal of the game and eighth of the season at the 5:08 mark of the third period. As was the case on Wednesday night in Fort Wayne, the Brahmas would let a third-period lead slip away on Thursday. With 6:50 remaining, Chad Langlais cut the deficit in half with his first goal of the season. Then with just 57 seconds left and the goalie pulled, the Gems tied the score behind Surma's second goal of the game.
After overtime went scoreless, the Brahmas headed to their second shootout in as many nights. Steve Silverthorn stopped three of the four Gems' attempts, but all five Brahmas shooters came up empty, as Texas falls to 13-8-6 and 3-2 in shootouts this season.
The Brahmas finish up their road trip on Friday night when they take on the Evansville Icemen at 7:15 pm CST. Texas returns home to the NYTEX Sports Centre on Wedneday, December 28 to face off against the Laredo Bucks at 7:00pm.
