Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, Fla. - The Jupiter Hammerheads allowed 19 hits to the Bradenton Marauders in a 6-3 loss at Roger Dean Stadium on Thursday night. The 19 hits allowed by Jupiter was a season high for the pitching staff, while it also was a season high number of hits for Bradenton.

Bradenton (7-8) wasted no time drawing first blood in the matchup. The Marauders quickly put a two-spot on the board in the first inning. Austin Meadows began the game with a double to deep right field, and then scored after two groundouts by Justin Sellers and Reese McGuire. McGuire collected the opening RBI. JaCoby Jones then singled and was followed with a RBI-double by Jose Osuna to make it 2-0.

Jupiter (6-9) put their first run on the board in the fourth inning, making it a 2-1 game. Brian Anderson was able to reach with a lead-off single. After a fly out, Anderson was able to move into scoring position with a single from Avery Romero. Anderson then used two wild pitches that found their way to the backstop to score and bring the Hammerheads within one run of Bradenton.

The Marauders answered with another two-spot in the visiting half of the fifth. Osuna, Jin-De Jhang and Edwin Espinal tied together three-straight one-out singles to load the bases. Wyatt Mathisen added the fourth consecutive single after a Hammerheads pitching change to make it 3-1. Miguel Del Pozo, the new Hammerhead pitcher, then struck out Justin Maffei before walking Meadows to allow Jhang to score the second and final run in the inning.

Both teams then matched each other by adding a run each in both the eighth and ninth innings to cap the scoring at 6-3. In the Hammerheads eighth inning, Avery Romero reached with a two-out single then scored on a RBI-double to deep left-center field from Cameron Flynn. Jupiter's final run came after Yefri Perez reached on a dropped third strike that was a wild pitch. Perez then stole second and advanced to third on a wild throw from McGuire, who was trying to catch him stealing. J.T. Riddle collected the final RBI with a groundout to third.

Matt Benedict (2-0) received the win for Bradenton, his second straight victory against Jupiter. Benedict tossed five innings, allowing just one earned run on six hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Chris Sadberry (1-2) took his second consecutive loss for Jupiter, with both coming against the Marauders. Sadberry went 4 1/3 innings allowing four earned runs on 10 hits with three walks while fanning just one Bradenton Marauder. Sadberry did work out of multiple jams, though, and played a part in the Marauders leaving 16 runners on board for the night, another season high for Bradenton.

Romero led Jupiter offensively with three hits and a run scored. Brian Anderson and Austin Dean each had a multiple hit game as well for the Hammerheads. Osuna led the Marauders going 4-4 with an RBI, walk, and a run scored. Bradenton reached their highest hit total since a 21-hit performance against Brevard County on June 4, 2012.

Both teams will return to the diamond on Friday night at Roger Dean Stadium, as the Hammerheads will look to even the series. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. To purchase tickets, please call (561) 630-1828 or visit RogerDeanStadium.com.
