Bradenton Juice Trade for Award Winner

February 8, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Bradenton Juice News Release

BRADENTON, FL- The Bradenton Juice announced today they have come to contract terms with infielder Robby Preston, whom they acquired in a trade with the Reno Silver Sox of the Golden League for a player to be named later.

Preston won numerous awards in his senior year at Division III Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. The 6'0" 180-pound shortstop was the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association 2006 South Region Player of the Year and the 2006 Great South Athletic Conference Player of the Year. The 22-year old right-hander batted .456 with 11 homeruns and stole 19 bases in 20 attempts, and landed a spot on the 2006 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-American 1st Team.

With all the accolades and impressive numbers, Preston was heavily scouted but was not drafted by a major league team. He signed with Reno, but was thrilled about being traded to Bradenton, where he will be much closer to his hometown of Gadsen, Alabama.

"My goal is to be the everyday shortstop," says Preston, although he realizes that job is not guaranteed.

"Robby adds depth and will probably be a utility guy" said Juice manager James Frisbie, "but I will give him a chance to win the starting job in camp."

Preston says he looks forward to the challenge, and hopes big league scouts will take another look at him.

The Bradenton Juice are part of the South Coast League of Professional Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. The South Coast League is preparing for its first season this summer with teams located in Aiken and Anderson, SC, Albany and Macon, GA, Port Charlotte and Bradenton, FL. The SCL will play a 90-game schedule between May and August 2007.
