Bradenton Juice News Release
BRADENTON, FL- The Bradenton Juice rang in the New Year by signing four new players. Lavelle Morgan, Andrew York, Luke Barganier and Zach Woodward are the latest roster additions for the Juice, giving the team seven players under contract.
Morgan is a left-handed pitcher with three years of professional baseball experience, including a season in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization. He went 1-3 with a 3.93 ERA in 2005, notching 60 strikeouts in 55 innings for Southwest Michigan, the Rays' Class A Midwest League team. He had previously been signed by the San Diego Padres.
"He's a good little pitcher," Juice manager James Frisbee said of the 5'11" 170-pound Morgan, "He has pitched for me before, and I foresee him as one of my starters."
Morgan, 26, split last season between Chillicothe of the Frontier League and Coastal Bend of the American Association and played college ball at McNeese State University.
York is a catcher who has played four seasons in independent baseball. Frisbee says the 6'3" 210-pound right-hander "has enough experience to handle a young pitching staff," and expects him to compete for the starting catcher role. York, 24, spent most of last season with Coastal Bend and played briefly with San Diego in the Golden League.
Barganier and Woodward are both left-handed swinging outfielders. The Juice acquired Barganier, 23, in a trade last month for a player to be named later. The 6'1" 185-pounder stole 16 bases for Chillicothe last season after spending two years in the Houston Astros organization. Woodward, 24, played at Gonzaga University last season.
The Juice offers fan-friendly, affordable fun. They open their 2007 season on May 17, and will play 45 home games at Manatee Community College. Season tickets are available now by calling 941-761-HOME.
