Bradenton Juice Ink Four More Players

January 23, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
Bradenton Juice News Release

BRADENTON, FL-Bradenton Juice manager James Frisbie says his roster is beginning to take shape, following the signing of four more players today. Julius Thames, John Clark, Steve Alverson and Kenny Evoniuk are the latest additions to the Juice roster.

Thames, 26, is a second baseman who is proficient at putting the ball in play. Frisbie projects the 5'11" 180-pound contact hitter as "a two-hole guy" in the lineup. Thames, who was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and resides in Marietta, Georgia, played college ball at Kennesaw State University. His professional career was put on hold for two years when his father passed away, but his bat showed few signs of rust when he made his debut in 2005. Thames hit .363 for Mesa in the Golden League and followed that with a .295 batting average for Sioux City in the American Association last season.

Clark, who goes by the name "Boodle," spent three seasons in the Cleveland Indians organization after being signed as a free agent in 2004. The 6'0" 200-pound right-hander played first base for the Burlington Indians of the Appalachian League last season, but is expected to play third base for the Juice. Clark, 23, was third on the Indians with six home runs in 2006, and drove in 20 runs.

The 22-year old Alverson, out of Louisiana Tech, stands only 5'9" but is a hard thrower. The right-hander fanned 20 in 23 innings pitched in his first season of pro ball last year for River City in the Frontier League.

Evoniuk, also a right-handed pitcher, played at Oral Roberts.

The Juice now have eleven players under contract. Frisbie says he has a couple more players targeted that he hopes to sign, but says he is getting close to the point of standing pat for a couple months until players begin getting released from affiliated clubs.

The Bradenton Juice are part of the South Coast League of Professional Baseball, an independent league of six professional baseball teams located in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. The South Coast League is preparing for its first season this summer with teams located in Aiken and Anderson, SC, Albany and Macon, GA, Port Charlotte and Bradenton, FL. The SCL will play a 90-game schedule between May and August 2007.
