Fort Worth Cats News Release
The Fort Worth Cats worked their way to a 3-1 win over the now-third place Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings on a wet Thursday night at LaGrave Field.
The WhiteWings (26-25) scored the first run of the pitching duel in the third inning, but the Cats (33-20) rebounded for a three-hit fourth to go up 2-0. The second and eventual game-winning run came on a one-out double by new Cat Mark Sobolewski.
RGV threatened in the sixth, when right fielder Eduardo Sosa singled to right field with second baseman Roberto Ramirez on second base. Cats' right fielder Chris Ellison came up throwing and nailed Ramirez trying to score at the plate to preserve the Cats' lead.
Ellison came through for an insurance run, launching a home run over the right field bleachers in the eighth inning. The home run was the second RBI of the night for Ellison.
Cats' starting pitcher T.J. Bozeman went seven innings, giving up one run on six hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Reliever James Guilietti came on for the two-inning save - his first of the season. Bozeman is now 4-0 on the season.
Thursday's game was scheduled to be a doubleheader, but inclement weather pushed the start time back to 7:30 p.m. and only one game was played. There will be a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 6:05 p.m.
Tickets to all home games can be purchased by going online to FWCats.com or by calling (817) 332-CATS.
