Bowers Has Successful Wrist Surgery

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning of the arenafootball2 league have announced fullback/linebacker Maurice Bowers has been placed on the injured reserve list after undergoing successful wrist surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2007 af2 season.

Bowers, 25, appeared in seven games with the Lightning this year, his third in the af2. He gained 69 rushing yards on 26 carries while leading the team with four rushing touchdowns. Additionally, Bowers chipped in for the defensive corps with 2.5 tackles.

Last season, the product of Colgate University (NCAA) appeared in five games with the Lightning, tallying 27 yards on eight carries with one rushing touchdown while amassing four receptions for 48 yards and one receiving touchdown. Bowers also tallied 7.5 tackles and scooped one fumble recovery.

Bowers spent his af2 rookie season with the Albany Conquest in 2005, appearing in 12 games while tallying nine tackles on the defensive side with 1.5 tackles-for-loss and three quarterback hurries.

OL/DL Peter Tuialuuluu is expected to move into the starting fullback spot for this week's road game against the Boise Burn.

The Lightning return to play for week 9 of af2 action against Boise this Saturday, beginning at 6:00 p.m. PT from Qwest Arena. The game can be heard live on radio at 1420-AM KSTN and on the internet at www.stocktonlightning.com, courtesy of SportsJuice.com (audio) and B2 Networks (video). The video feed is available for a $6 "pay-per-view" charge.
