Boulders defeat Bears 8-7 at Riverfront Stadium

NEWARK, New Jersey - The Rockland Boulders stormed back with four unanswered runs to defeat the Newark Bears 8-7 for the final time at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium Saturday night in Can-Am League action.

Cristobal Santana paced the Boulders' offense going 4-for-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.

For the second straight night the Boulders scored the game's first run in the top of the first inning. After Rockland's leadoff batter, Ray Stokes lead the game off with a single, Ryan Mollica followed up with an RBI double to plate Stokes and give the Boulders a 1-0 lead.

Barry Wesson then followed with a solo shot over the left field fence off of Newark's starter Greg Lane to put Rockland up 2-0. For Wesson, that was his fifth home run in a Boulders' uniform. Santana gave the Boulders a 3-0 edge after his RBI single scored Norm Hutchins from second, who before Santana, got on with a double.

Newark answered right back in the bottom of the first inning with one run off of Boulders' starter Will Hassett, who left after the third batter of the game with an injury.

Cole Kraft got the run back for the Boulders after his sacrifice fly brought home Hutchins from third base in the top of the third putting Rockland up 4-1.

The Bears took a 7-4 lead in the bottom of the third, which was highlighted by a trio of doubles that brought in five runs for Newark.

Trailing 7-6 in the top of the seventh, Kraft and Chase Weems both hammered RBI doubles to score a pair of runs to give Rockland the 8-7 advantage.

Adrian Martin came on to record his league leading 22nd save of the season having a perfect ninth.

The Boulders move to 20-24 in the second half, and 39-51 overall with the win. Jon Muller gets the victory for Rockland, while Kyle Morrison is charged with the loss.

Rockland sends Bobby Blevins to the mound for the final time this season tomorrow night at Provident Bank Park when the Bears and Boulders square of in game three of this four game series. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
