Boston Lobsters Firm up Roster
March 13, 2012 - World TeamTennis (WTT)
Boston Lobsters News Release
The Boston Lobsters finalized their 2012 roster with Tuesday's World TeamTennis Draft, protecting several key contributors from last year's playoff run while making one new addition.
Returning to the lineup are Jan-Michael Gambill, Eric Butorac and Irina Falconi, while Carly Gullickson becomes the newest Lobster. Combined with marquee player John Isner, it's another all-American roster for the Lobsters.
Gambill will be playing his fifth consecutive season with the Lobsters and eighth overall in WTT after being protected in Round One of Tuesday's draft.
Butorac, protected in Round Two, is currently the second highest-ranked men's doubles player in WTT at No. 31 in the world. He and current doubles partner Bruno Soares are the ninth-ranked team in the world.
Falconi, protected in the third round, joins the Lobsters full-time this season after helping the team down the stretch last summer. Falconi is the highest-ranked women's singles player in WTT at No. 100 in the world.
Taken in the fourth round by the Lobsters, Gullickson spent last season with the Springfield Lasers. This marks Gullickson's fourth WTT season. The daughter of former major league baseball player Bill Gullickson and older sister of tennis player Chelsey Gullickson, Carly won the 2009 U.S. Open mixed doubles title with Travis Parrott.
Isner will make two appearances with the Lobsters. His first will come in a home match July 23 against the Philadelphia Freedoms. He will then travel with the team for a match the following day at the New York Sportimes. Isner is currently ranked No. 11 in the world in men's singles and second among Americans.
The Lobsters kick off the 2012 season with a match on July 9 at Ferncroft Country Club's Joan Norton Stadium against the Sacramento Capitals.
