Boston Celtics Recall Gerald Green from the Florida Flame

FORT MYERS, Fla., February 21 - Boston Celtics Executive Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge announced the team has recalled forward Gerald Green from the Florida Flame of the NBA Development League. The Flame has been assigned as the Celtics D-League affiliate for the 2005-06 campaign.

After being assigned to the Flame on February 16, 2006, Green appeared in one game with Florida, tallying six points, one rebound, and one steal in 15 minutes versus the Roanoke Dazzle on February 18. In nine NBA D-League games this season with Florida and Fayetteville, Green averaged 11.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.3 steals while shooting 43 percent (43-99) from the floor, 45.5 percent (5-11) from three-point range, and 72.7 percent (16-22) from the free throw line.

A 6-8, 200-pound forward, Green was originally selected by the Celtics in the first round (18th overall) of the 2005 NBA Draft. The 20-year-old was assigned to the D-League's Fayetteville Patriots on January 6, 2006 and appeared in eight games. During his stint with Fayetteville, Green averaged 12.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 26.5 minutes per contest. The Houston, Texas native tallied a season-high 21 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor at Roanoke on January 27, 2006. Green also notched 15 points, grabbed nine rebounds and swiped three steals at Florida on February 2, 2006.

After being recalled by the Celtics on February 3, 2006, Green appeared in his first five NBA games with Boston, averaging 0.8 points in 3.0 minutes per contest.

A two-time All-State selection at Gulf Shores Academy in Houston, Green was named to the 2005 McDonald's All-American team, averaging 33.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game as a senior. He scored a game-high 24 points, on 8-of-12 shooting from the field and 6-for-9 from beyond the three-point arc, in the 2005 McDonald's All-American Game and also won the McDonald's Slam Dunk Contest. Green scored 17 points in the 2005 Roundball Classic, hitting 4-of-7 from the three-point line.

The Florida Flame is the official D-League affiliate of the NBA's Miami HEAT, Minnesota Timberwolves, Boston Celtics, and Orlando Magic. Showcasing the best young talent in professional basketball outside of the NBA, the Flame play a 48-game schedule during the 2005-06 season with 23 home games at Germain Arena. Led by a group of local investors, the Flame is now in its second season of providing affordable, family entertainment to sports fans throughout Southwest Florida.
