Boston Cannons News Release

BOSTON, MA - Wednesday, May 28, 2008 - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) have acquired attackman Sean Morris, a Marshfield, MA native, from the Chicago Machine in exchange for the Cannons' eighth overall selection in tonight's 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft, Cannons Vice President and General Manager Mark Kastrud announced today. The 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft will be held at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, tonight at 8:30 PM and will air live on ESPN-U.

"We came into today's draft with the goal to make the team better and so far we feel that we're heading in the right direction with the acquisition of Sean, a two-year MLL veteran and 30-plus point scorer," said Cannons Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill Daye. "Sean can help us at both attack and midfield, and is a local player who we know has a huge fan following in Massachusetts. We're very excited to have him as a Cannon."

Morris, 25, appeared in 12 games for Chicago in 2007 and scored 15 goals, one two-point goal, and 23 assists for 39 total points. He also collected eight groundballs and one penalty minute during the season.

The 5-9, 190-pound native of Marshfield, MA, played in 10 games for Chicago in 2006, collecting 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points, along with 17 groundballs and five penalty minutes.

A 2006 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Morris was a two-time Tewaaraton Trophy finalist (awarded to the nation's top player) during his junior and senior seasons, and was a USILA First Team All-American as a senior in 2006. Morris was the New England Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006 and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team in 2006. One of the nation's premiere players, Morris finished his career at UMass with a 40-game point scoring streak dating back to his sophomore season and had his 34-game goal scoring streak broken during the 2006 NCAA Championship game against Virginia; the final game of his career. Morris served as the team's captain as a senior.

Originally selected by Chicago in the first-round (3rd overall) of the 2006 MLL Collegiate Draft, Morris was the first-ever player to be drafted by the Machine.

The Cannons sent their eighth overall selection in tonight's MLL Collegiate Draft, which they acquired from the Rochester Rattlers for midfielder Brett Bucktooth earlier today, to Chicago for Morris.

Along with the first overall selection in tonight's eighth annual collegiate draft, the Cannons possess picks in the third round (26th overall), fourth round (38th overall) and fifth round (46th overall), for a total of five selections in what has been referred to as the deepest draft class in MLL history.

The Cannons will return to action when they travel to the state of New York to take on the Long Island Lizards on Saturday, May 31 at 7:00 PM. The game will air live in the New England area on Comcast SportsNet.
