Boston Cannons News Release
BOSTON, MA - Wednesday, May 28, 2008 - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) have struck a deal to acquire the first overall selection in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft from the Chicago Machine in exchange for the Cannons' fourth and sixth overall selections, Cannons Vice President and General Manager Mark Kastrud announced today. The 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft will be held at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, tonight at 8:30 PM and will air live on ESPN-U.
"We are very excited to have the first overall selection tonight," said Cannons Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill Daye. "There are many talented players in this senior class and we're going to be looking for the best offensive player that we can bring into the organization and fit into what we have going here. We need to determine who the best player is and who can make an immediate impact on our team."
This is the first time in the team's history that the Cannons will select first overall in the MLL Collegiate Draft.
Along with the first overall selection in tonight's eighth annual collegiate draft, the Cannons possess the eighth overall selection, as well as picks in the third round (26th overall), fourth round (38th overall) and fifth round (46th overall), for a total of five selections in what has been referred to as the deepest draft class in MLL history.
The Cannons will return to action when they travel to the state of New York to take on the Long Island Lizards on Saturday, May 31 at 7:00 PM. The game will air live in the New England area on Comcast SportsNet.
