Boston Cannons Acquire Eighth Overall Pick In Collegiate Draft In Exchange For Brett Bucktooth

BOSTON, MA - Wednesday, May 28, 2008 - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) have acquired the eighth overall selection in the 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft from the Rochester Rattlers in exchange for midfielder Brett Bucktooth, Cannons Vice President and General Manager Mark Kastrud announced today. The 2008 MLL Collegiate Draft will be held at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, tonight at 8:30 PM and will air live on ESPN-U.
"Brett has been an integral part of the Cannons for the past two seasons," said Cannons Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill Daye. "It was a difficult decision to make this trade, however, Brett had expressed a strong desire to be able to play close to his Rochester-based family and significantly cut down his amount of travel. Brett is a very talented player and a great person. We thank him for all he has contributed to this organization and we will certainly miss having him as a part of this Cannons team."
The trade gives the Cannons three selections in the first round of tonight's eighth annual collegiate draft, as they will now pick fourth, sixth and eighth overall, in what has been referred to as the deepest draft class in MLL history. The Cannons also possess picks in the third round (26th overall), fourth round (38th overall) and fifth round (46th overall), for a total of six selections in this year's draft.
Bucktooth appeared in one game for the Cannons so far this season, on May 23 versus Rochester, and collected one goal, one assist and three groundballs.
The Cannons will return to action when they travel to the state of New York to take on the Long Island Lizards on Saturday, May 31 at 7:00 PM. The game will air live in the New England area on Comcast SportsNet.
