HANOVER, Mass. (Oct. 21, 2015) - The Boston Breakers announced today that the club has waived midfielders Bia, Rafinha, and Suzane Pires.
Bia, 31, started three of the 10 matches she appeared in for the Breakers in 2015. The Sao Paulo native logged 369 minutes on the season. She made her NWSL debut on April 11, 2015, coming on in the 61st minute in a 4-1 loss on the road against Portland Thorns FC.
Rafinha started eight of the 13 matches she appeared in, playing 790 minutes in her first season with the Breakers. The 27-year-old from Sao Paulo registered 14 shots, seven of which were on target. She, too, made her Breakers debut on April 11, 2015, earning the start at Portland. In June 2015, Rafinha was named to Brazil's World Cup roster for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada. There, she made her senior team debut, coming on in the 90th minute of a 2-0 group stage win over Korea Republic on June 9. She also appeared in a 1-0 win over Costa Rica in the group stage, entering the match in the 78th minute.
Pires, one of four rookies on the Breakers in 2015, debuted on April 11 at Portland. Also from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Pires started six of the 12 matches she appeared in, tallying 447 minutes of action. Pires, 23, registered one assist. It was her first professional point, and it came in a 2-1 loss at home on Aug. 1, 2015, against Seattle Reign FC. Last week, Pires earned her first national team call-up, getting named to Portugal's roster for an upcoming EURO 2017 qualifying match against the Republic of Ireland.
