HANOVER, Mass. (Aug. 26, 2015) - The Boston Breakers, playing their second game in four days, lost on the road in Seattle Wednesday night despite a late surge. A goal and assist by Seattle's Megan Rapinoe propelled the hosts to a 3-1 victory in front of 4,484 fans at Memorial Stadium.

The home side went ahead in the 21st minute after getting frustrated by the Breakers, who successfully defended three corner kicks in a two-minute span and got a pair of tremendous saves from keeper Alyssa Naeher.

After Naeher denied Rapinoe and Scottish international Rachel Corsie, both from close range, Stephanie Cox sent in a cross from the left corner, finding Rapinoe, who beat Naeher to give Seattle a 1-0 lead.

The Reign doubled their lead in the 34th minute on a goal by Kendall Fletcher, but not after another great effort by Naeher, who stopped Welsh captain Jess Fishlock. The crafty midfielder tried flicking it past Naeher right in front of goal, but to no avail. The ball then careened out towards Fletcher, who struck it into goal for the 2-0 advantage.

Seattle went ahead, 3-0, in the 56th minute. Scotland striker Kim Little took a flick from Rapinoe just along the edge of the 18, came into the box, and found the back of the net.

The Breakers threatened twice in the second half before erasing Seattle's shutout bid. The first attempt came in the 51st minute when Rafinha tried getting it past Hope Solo from a difficult angle but was denied, and again in the 80th minute when Stephanie Verdoia hit a shot just over the crossbar.

In the 88th minute, Maddy Evans scored her second goal of the season, collecting a pass from Kristie Mewis inside the box before beating Solo with a sharply struck, left-footed shot. It was Evans' second goal of the season and Mewis' second assist this year.

The Breakers finish their 2015 NWSL season this Sunday (Aug. 30) in Houston against the Dash. Season tickets for 2016 are on sale now. To purchase 2016 season tickets, visit www.breakerstickets.com or call 617-945-1704.
