Sky Blue FC Heads West to Face NWSL Shield Winners
August 27, 2015 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Sky Blue FC News Release
Morristown, N.J. (Thursday, August 27, 2015) - Sky Blue FC (5-7-6, 21 points) will be traveling to Moda Pitch at Memorial Stadium for a Saturday night meeting with Seattle Reign FC (12-3-3, 39 points), which won the 2015 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Shield on Wednesday night after defeating the Boston Breakers. Kickoff for the contest is slated for 10:00 PM EST.
"This is a great opportunity for our club to play a Seattle team that just won the NWSL Shield," said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. "They have not lost in their stadium, and this gives us the chance to play against them in what will be close to a playoff atmosphere. We are happy with the way we have been playing lately, and our club will be up to the task of going against the top team on the NWSL Table."
Sky Blue FC is coming off a 1-0 home defeat of Portland Thorns FC in front of a sellout crowd at Yurcak Field last Saturday night. In the match, Danish striker Nadia Nadim finished a Kelley O'Hara feed in the 19th minute for the lone tally of the evening. The win was then preserved in the 89th minute when goalkeeper Brittany Cameron saved an Alex Morgan penalty kick try and a follow-up rebound with two incredibly athletic saves.
Seattle is currently riding a six-game winning streak and wrapped up its second consecutive NWSL Shield on Wednesday night by knocking off Boston in a home match, 3-1. This fixture marks the third pairing of the season between the Reign and Sky Blue FC, with the first being a 1-1 draw at Yurcak Field and the second a 3-0 home shutout in favor of Seattle.
Fans who are unable to make it to the match on Saturday can still watch the action live via YouTube HD.
After Saturday night, Sky Blue FC will close out its 2015 NWSL season on Wednesday, September 2nd, when it hosts FC Kansas City at Yurcak Field for a 7:00 PM contest. Individual and group tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at tickets.skybluefc.com or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
