Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA - The af2 office has assigned WR Chavis McCollister to the Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings for the 2008 season. McCollister (5'9, 210 lbs) joins the BattleWings, his fourth season in the af2, after a short stint with the Kansas City Brigade of the AFL earlier this year.

The BattleWings coaching staff was enthusiastic about adding an experienced offensive dynamo to their squad. One of the premier offensive playmakers in af2, McCollister dominated opponents with 139 catches for 1738 receiving yards and 36 touchdowns last season for the South Georgia Wildcats. Since the beginning of the 2005 af2 season, McCollister has racked up 342 receptions, 4698 receiving yards, and 108 touchdowns. Prior to joining the Wildcats in 2007, McCollister spent time with the Amarillo Dusters, Oklahoma Yard Dawgz, and the Macon Knights.

"Chavis is an unbelievable athlete, he's a Sunday player playing on Saturdays" noted BattleWings head coach Jon Norris. BattleWings offensive coordinator Jon Lyles added, "Obviously we're excited to add a playmaker like Chavis, not only is he great on the field, but he is also a wonderful addition to the locker room with his leadership abilities."

Even BattleWings Defensive Backs Coach, Martino Theus, was stoked about the addition of McCollister. "The defensive backs can only benefit from having to defend a guy like Chavis on a daily basis. There is no doubt that he'll make them a better group."

McCollister was a three-sport star at Tenaha High School in East Texas where he set numerous state records including most passing touchdowns. After high school, McCollister was a three time All-American selection at Trinity Valley Community College before transferring to Tarleton State.

BattleWings fans can get their first glimpse of McCollister tonight at BattlePalooza, the teams' first annual Pre-Season Fan Fest at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City. The doors open at 6 PM and the public is invited to attend the free event.
