Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings continue to work toward the collective goal of an ArenaCup Championship as the first week of training camp comes to a close. BattleWings' head coach Jon Norris noted, "It's a work in progress, and we've had some productive practices so far, but we still have to break through some thresholds to get to where we want to be. We've been very lucky to avoid the injury bug to this point."
The highlight of Thursday's practice was a surprise visit from AFL legend George Lafrance. Lafrance, a native of New Iberia, advised the BattleWing players, "To never give up on your dream of playing football" and to continue to "work hard". Lafrance starred in the AFL as a Specialist with three teams from 1988 to 2000.
Still absent from BattleWings training camp is 2007 af2 International Player of the Year Steve Panella and fellow Canadian Derek Watson. BattleWings offensive coordinator Jon Lyles said "I'd like to have those guys here participating and learning with the rest of the group, but the situation is beyond our control."
"Every team is facing the same issue with their International players," Norris added. "I know the league is working very hard to resolve the issues and get those guys in here as soon as possible."
The first roster cuts of training camp will be due Friday, March 14th. Per af2 rules, rosters must be down to 30 players.
