Mississippi Braves News Release
Pearl, MS - The Mississippi Braves proudly announce Books, Baseball & Braves, the M-Braves summer reading program for children in the central Mississippi region. Books, Baseball & Braves is an initiative by the M-Braves that connects children's natural affection for baseball to the bigger goal of promoting literacy and encouraging a lifelong love for reading.
The program was introduced to Pearl and Rankin County elementary schools in May and the program officially began on June 1st. Though it was introduced to those schools, it is open to any kindergarten to fifth grade children that want to participate.
Books, Baseball & Braves is divided into five different reading levels. Each level consists of five books for a total of 25 books. For the single, double, triple, home run and grand slam level participants, special dog tags and chains will be awarded.
Those children that read all 25 books, grand slam level, will be rewarded with a hot dog picnic and one ticket to an M-Braves game on August 25th, 26th or 27th. Additional tickets for family members will be available at the discounted rate of $4. Grand slam level readers will be honored with a pre-game parade around the warning track at Trustmark Park honoring their commitment to reading.
Children should have their parents sign the attached form and return to Trustmark Park. The deadline for completing all levels will be August 15th. Participants can pick up their prizes at Trustmark Park. Prizes will not be mailed out.
