Bonner and Cooper on the Mend

Arizona Rattlers News Release
Phoenix, AZ - Sherdrick Bonner and Hunkie Cooper, having completed another ArenaBowl run for the Arizona Rattlers in 2003, are both on the mend following the longest season in Arena Football History. The Rattlers played 20 games, the most of any team in the 17-year history of the AFL. Cooper appeared in all 20, while Bonner saw action in 18.
Quarterback Sherdrick Bonner underwent successful surgery on his right knee last week. The All-AFL First Team QB had surgery to repair torn medial and lateral meniscus. Bonner set franchise records in 2003 with 88 touchdown passes and 3, 692 yards during the regular season.
"Bonner's surgery was successful," said Dr. Jerry Yacobucci, the team's Head Physician. "We expect Sherdrick to make a full recovery in about six weeks."
Hunkie Cooper will have surgery in the next several weeks to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Cooper, who hasn't missed a game since 1999, will face a recovery time of between three and five months.
"Hunkie's injuries are consistent with a guy who hasn't missed a game in four years, and who played 20 games this season," said Head Athletic Trainer Matt Anderson. "The fact that he played with his shoulder like this is a testament to the kind of football player Hunkie Cooper is."
The Rattlers will go for their third straight ArenaBowl beginning in February 2004. For more information, call (602) 514-8300, or log on to www.azrattlers.com.
