Brazos Valley Bombers News Release

Bryan-College Station, TX - The Brazos Valley Bombers (1-0) opened their season Thursday night with a 5-4 victory over the Acadiana Cane Cutters (0-1).

"It's always good anytime you start the year off on a win," said Curtis Dixon, Bombers head coach. "There were a lot of things that contributed to that. There was good timely hitting, there was moving on the bases, there was a quality start by Icezack and the bullpen coming in really impressive like Blackham was able to do."

Bombers' starter Icezack Flemming earned his first win of the season after posting seven strikeouts over five innings of work. The Bombers' bullpen had a strong performance in its first appearance of the summer, as relief pitcher Matt Blackham struck out seven in only three innings and closer Cannon Chadwick ended the game with two straight strikeouts after hitting a pair of batters. The Bombers' pitching staff combined for 16 total strikeouts in their first outing of the season.

Texas A&M product G.R. Hinsley, who set the Bombers' single-season RBI record in 2013, picked up right where he left off last season against the Cane Cutters notching two RBI on one single. College Station native Ryan Roderick out of Hill College notched a triple for his first hit of the season. All told, the entire Bombers' lineup was productive with eight of nine batters recording a hit while surrendering just five strikeouts.

Game two of the Bombers' four game road trip is Friday night at 7 p.m. against the Cane Cutters. The Bombers will open their home schedule against the Cane Cutters on June 3 at Cellucor Field. All Bombers games can be viewed online atwww.ustream.tv/channel/brazos-valley-bombers-baseball.
