Brazos Valley Bombers News Release
Bryan, Texas - Price Simmering took the mound Sunday night for the Bombers, hoping to lead the team to a 10-1 home record. The Rougarou struck first in the fifth inning, when right fielder Brock Slaton grounded out to bring in the runner at third. The game stood at 1-0 for the next three innings. Simmering finished the night with a solid line of 5.0 innings pitched, 3 hits allowed, one earned run, no walks, and 6 strikeouts.
The Bombers offense started off slow, not scoring until the bottom of the eight inning, when Travis Chestnut hit an RBI double to bring in Riley Bender to tie the score at 1-1.
The two teams headed to extra innings, as Dalton Leblanc, Trent Tompkins, and Patrick Hail carried the Bombers scoreless to the twelth inning. Each team had plenty of traffic on the bases in extras, failing to score until the top of the twelth when the Rougarou knocked one in to go ahead 2-1. However, relentless Bomber hitting did not let the game end there, with Brandon Bishop bunting to move Cole Posey to third base. However, a costly error by Rougarou fielding allowed Posey to score and tie the game up at two apiece.
In the top of the thirteenth inning, clutch pitching by Christian Clack kept the game tied to give the Bombers another opportunity to walk it off. In the bottom half of the inning, a single by Kyle Atkinson moved Davis Powell to third to bring Michael Adair up to the plate. He did not disappoint, hitting a single to bring in Powell, successfully completing the game to give the Bombers their tenth home victory, taking nearly four hours to finish.
The Bombers bullpen helped keep the win in arms reach, only allowing one run in the twelth inning, to where the offense fought back to avoid a loss. The Bombers continue their undefeated streak against the Rougarou, and now have a record of 14-5, which ties the Acaidiana Cane Cutters for first place in the TCL. This win clinched the Bombers' first half playoff berth. Exciting times for the Brazos Valley Bombers!
The Bombers are back in action at Edible Field for the third game of a five game series against the Rougarou with hopes of extending their terrific home record to 11-1. On Tuesday, the Bombers will travel to Baton Rouge to play the last two of the five games against the Rougarou. Come out to the ballpark June 27 for some fun Monday night baseball!
