Brazos Valley Bombers News Release

Bryan-College Station, Texas - Brazos Valley Bomber runs came early and often in tonight's matchup against the visiting Baton Rouge Rougarou. The Bombers take an 11-1 victory and sweep the three-game home series vs. the Rougarou.

Gabe Craig started on the mound for the Bombers, his 5th appearance of the season, and handled four scoreless innings for the home squad. Craig sat down eight Rougarou batters and only allowed one hit in the 17 batters he faced.

After a three up, three down 1st inning, the Bombers went on an offensive crusade, scoring in each of the next four innings and again in the 7th.

A sacrifice grounder by 1st baseman Shelby Becker to the Baton Rouge shortstop scored Kyle Atkinson from 3rd base for the Bombers' first run of the game and a 1-0 lead after two.

The Bombers tacked on another four in the 3rd. An RBI double from Davis Powell scores the first of the inning. During Cole Posey's at-bat, a wild pitch past the catcher allowed Kameron Weil to stroll home for a 3-0 Bombers lead. Posey then hit an RBI double to shallow center field to score a pair and extend the Bombers' lead to five.

Kameron Weil, who finished 2 for five at the plate, recorded his 3rd double of the season in the bottom of the 4th inning, for another pair of Bomber runs.

The offensive success continued for the Brazos Valley in the 5th. After loading the bases off three straight walks, right fielder Brayden Evans scores one off an RBI single to keep the bases loaded. The next batter, Kade Fletcher, takes a pitch to the side to walk home Brandon Bishop from 3rd. RBI clubhouse leader (12), Travis Chestnut, makes it a trio of runs in the 5th for the Bombers, recording an RBI single to score Becker.

After five innings, it appeared that the Bombers were looking to replicate their 10-0 victory over the Rougarou from their first matchup of this five-game series on Saturday. However, the Rougarou managed one run in the top of the 7th off a sacrifice fly by Cameron Yadon.

Powell recorded his 2nd RBI of the game in the bottom of the 7th to score Brandon Bishop and bring the Bombers' lead back to double digits.

The Rougarou failed to put up a fight in the 8th or the 9th and fall 11 to 1 against the Bombers. The Bombers sweep the home series against Baton Rouge and look to continue their sweep as they travel to Baton Rouge to take on the Rougarou two more times, tomorrow and Wednesday.
