Bombers Re-Sign Pair of Prospects from 2018 Season

March 25, 2019 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL) - Brazos Valley Bombers News Release

Bryan/College Station, Texas - The Brazos Valley Bombers announced on Monday that Incarnate Word junior infielder Kyle Bergeron and Western Kentucky redshirt junior infielder Sam McElreath will be returning to the team for the 2019 season.

"The Bombers staff is very excited; getting both of these two men back on the roster was a no-brainer for us," Bombers Manager Brian Nelson said. "What they (Bergeron & McElreath) can do on the field speaks for itself. They are really good ball-players, but they were mainly brought back because they are team leaders and they know what it takes to win."

Bergeron and McElreath were both a part of the 2018 Bombers team that won the Texas Collegiate League Regular Season Championship.

Bergeron, a Bridge City, Texas native, finished his 2018 spring season as the 2nd team All-Southland Conference shortstop with a .321 batting average. Bergeron enters the 2019 season arriving on many pre-season Southland top prospect lists. Bergeron has helped Incarnate Word get off to a 15-9 record with a big win against #13 Texas A&M University. In 2018 for the Bombers, Bergeron posted a .290 batting average in 17 games before his season was cut short due to injury. He hit four doubles and drove in three while also recording three stolen bases.

McElreath, who is no stranger to the Brazos Valley, is a Brenham native, where he played high school baseball and then junior college baseball for the Blinn Buccaneers. Now with Western Kentucky, he has helped them off to a 5-1 start in Conference USA baseball while posting a .313 conference average. McElreath played in 21 games for the Bombers during the 2018 summer season as he batted .241 with a home run and seven RBI while adding in 14 walks and a double.

The 2019 season begins on May 31 when the Bombers travel to the Acadiana Cane Cutters with the home opener scheduled for June 4 against the Baton Rouge Rougarou.
