Bombers Outclass Dans, Improve to 7-0 with 13-5 Win

Dubois County Bombers News Release

The Dubois County Bombers piled up 13 runs on 12 hits and one Danville Dans error en route to a 13-5 victory Tuesday night at Danville Stadium. The Bombers improved to 7-0 as Danville fell to 1-6.

The Bombers scored four runs in the second inning off Dans starter Matt Frahm and would score seven in the fourth and two in the fifth off of Frahm and the Danville bullpen.

The second inning was an example of why Dubois County has yet to lose. First baseman Jeff Zahn and third baseman Cody Daily led off with line-drive singles and moved up one base on a sacrifice bunt by shortstop Frank Rawdow.

Catcher Kolin Conner, who had been 2 for 20 on the season, promptly launched the first pitch he saw deep in the right-center field gap for a two-run triple. He would score on second baseman Bo Ausmus' double, and Ausmus would score a pass ball two batters later.

Leftfielder Landon Curry hit leadoff and made his Bombers debut, going 1-3 with two walks, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.

In all, eight of the nine Bombers batters would score runs on the day, a testament to the Bombers' depth and, by comparison, an indictment of the Dans' lack thereof.

Dans general manager Jeanie Cooke said some of her squad's better players were still competing for their respective schools in the College World Series. Their lineup reflected this; the top four batters came into Tuesday's game batting over .300 while the bottom five were hitting under .200 - and two of those players were *pitchers *who hadn't batted yet this season.

Taylor Luna started for the Bombers and worked three and a third, having some control issues - walking four batters - and giving up four earned runs. Kurt Kudrecki relieved him in the bottom of the fourth inning, as the Dans were in the process of scoring three runs after scoring two in the bottom of the third.

Kudrecki gave up one run in the two and two-thirds innings he pitched, and Ty Simpson came on to finish the final three innings.

Ausmus was lifted for a pinch runner in the fifth inning after fouling a ball off the inside of his left foot and experiencing noticeable discomfort.

The Bombers play Danville Wednesday night at 7:15 p.m. in League Stadium as Jasper native Spencer Sapp makes his second start of the season.

It will be a full day of baseball at League Stadium as the first of three (possibly four) summer baseball camps will be held at 9 a.m.
