Bombers Methodically Hammer Dans in 13-6 Win

June 6, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release

In a game that was reasonably close through four and one-half innings, the Dubois County Bombers (8-0) utilized a four-run fifth inning to cruise to a 13-6 victory over the visiting Danville Dans (1-7) Wednesday night in League Stadium in Huntingburg, Ind.

Center fielder Austin Nyman had the game's biggest hit, a one-out, three-run triple in the bottom of the fifth to put the Bombers ahead 9-4. Nyman would score as left fielder Landon Curry, the next batter, blooped a single into left.

The Bombers scored in all but two innings Wednesday, scoring one in the first, three in the second and one run in both the third and fourth innings before breaking the game open in the fifth. They would tack on three in the seventh.

Spencer Sapp started for the Bombers and was not very sharp. He lasted only four innings, giving up three earned runs as he racked up a high pitch count and struck out only one Dan while walking two, hitting one and surrendering seven hits.

Nick Smart earned the win, coming on in the fifth to pitch three and two-thirds innings, giving up two earned runs. He gave way to Ryan Billo, who finished the game.

Danville's bullpen was also quite active, as starter Tom Helwich lasted only two and two-thirds innings. The Dans used a total of five pitchers.

Dubois County's offense was the story for the second straight evening, racking up nineteen hits as all but one member of the Bombers' starting lineup had at least one hit.

The exception was right fielder Brendan Neel, who played his first game with Dubois County after arriving early Wednesday afternoon. Neel walked and scored on Nyman's triple.

The Bombers play again at Thursday at 7:15 p.m. when they host the Terre Haute Rex.

It's "Thirsty Thursday" at League Stadium, as twelve-ounce Budweiser and Bud Light drafts will be two dollars, and the Bud Girls will be in attendance to entertain the crowd.

The Bombers enjoyed their biggest home crowd of the season thus far with 384 in attendance and hope to add to that tomorrow as they look to improve to 9-0.

So come out and watch quality baseball and have fun with low-priced beer and the Bud Girls.
