Brazos Valley Bombers News Release
In a sold-out crowd of Bombers fans at Edible Field, Brazos Valley hoped to get back to their winning ways in the first of five games against the Baton Rouge Rougarou. The Bombers start off strong against the Rougarou in the first inning when a Tyner Hughes sac fly scores Davis Powell from third base. The first inning ends with the Bombers up 1-0.
The Bombers broke the game open in the fourth inning when Brandon Bishop and Brayden Evans started a 2-out rally with back-to-back singles. From there, a Wyatt Grant walk loads the bases. Robert Antonetti then knocks in two with a single. The fourth inning fun doesn't stop there, because a pick-off attempt by the Rougarou and a Kameron Weil double knocks in three more. The five-run fourth inning makes it 6-0 Bombers.
The Bombers tack on four more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning with RBIs by Brayden Evans, Wyatt Grant, Travis Chestnut, and Kameron Weil. These runs more than seal the Bombers' 10-0 victory, extending their home record to 9-1.
The winning pitcher, starter Hunter Mayo, pitched phenomenally, going 6.0 IP with 2 hits, no runs allowed, 6 strikeouts, and 0 walks. Cinoon Bak came in to relieve Mayo and continued the excellence. He pitched 3.0 innings of relief with only allowing one hit, a walk, and 5 strikeouts. Neither pitcher allowed a run, effectively shutting out Rougarou hitters.
Every hitter in this Bombers lineup found a way to contribute this game, especially Travis Chestnut, Brayden Evans, Brandon Bishop, and Kameron Weil. Combined, they had 9 hits and 5 RBIs. Catcher Antonetti also had quite the game, collecting 2 RBIs for himself.
The Bombers are back in action at Edible Field for the second game of a five-game series against the Rougarou with hopes of extending their terrific home record to 10-1. On Monday, the Bombers will travel to Baton Rouge to play the last two of the five games against the Rougarou. Come out to the ballpark June 26 for some fun Sunday night baseball!
