Brazos Valley Bombers News Release
Bryan/College Station, Texas - The Brazos Valley Bombers defeated the Texarkana Twins by a score of 6-4. The team trailed early but was able to rally back in the middle innings to win the season opener.
Starting pitcher, Cody LeCompte, struggled early, allowing a run in each of the first two innings. He settled down after and finished the night with 4 innings pitched, 2 runs, 3 hits, and four strikeouts. The Bombers bullpen was able to keep the lead and was effective in only allowing 2 additional runs to score the remainder of the game. At the plate, the Bomber standouts were Robin Adames, who had two hits and a key RBI in the 3rd to get the Bombers on the board. The game's MVP for the Bombers was Christian Sepulveda, who was dynamic both with the bat and the glove. Sepulveda hit a big 2 run single to give the Bombers a lead they would not give up.
For Texarkana, starting pitcher Tyler Jeans was effective until the 5th inning where he hit two batters and gave up key hits to Bomber players. Shortstop Cam Halter showcased why he is a player to watch for the Twins. In the first inning, Halter showed off his speed, beating out a infield hit and then stealing a base to put the pressure on the Bombers. Another player for Texarkana who stood out was first baseman Matthew McDonald, who had two hits and a steal.
Coach Brian Nelson, in his first game as Manager, said "Solid all-around team win. The pitching staff came out and competed well on the mound. I was really impressed with our infield play tonight. Yeatts and Sepulveda made some fantastic plays up the middle to keep the game close and give our offense the opportunity to get into rhythm. We got a long ways to go but it feels good to get started in the win column."
