Bombers Bring Two Locals Back Home
Bryan/College Station, TX - The Brazos Valley Bombers announced on Monday that a couple of local products in Houston Baptist right-hander Cody Collins and Texas Tech right-hander Hunter Dobbins have been added to the 2019 summer roster.
Collins, who is currently a junior at HBU, has made six appearances for the Huskies with a 1-0 record while pitching in 5.2 innings this season. He spent his first two seasons at Blinn College where he went 2-0 as a sophomore while posting a 3.86 ERA in 14 innings with 12 strikeouts. As a freshman, he went 1-1 with a 3.60 ERA in 15 appearances while striking out 18 in 20 innings.
"Cody Collins was one of our biggest surprises last summer," Bombers Manager Brian Nelson said. "He came to us very late in the recruiting process and became an All-Star and was a leader on our staff."
Collins was a member of the 2018 Bombers where he earned All-Star honors after going 1-0 with a 0.84 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.
Hunter Dobbins played his high school baseball at Rudder High School in Bryan where he was a three-year starter. He was ranked as the No. 6 third baseman in the 2018 class by Perfect Game and the No. 73 overall prospect in Texas after being named to the 2018 TSWA All-State Third Team at third base and All-State Honorable Mention as a pitcher.
"Hunter is a hard-nosed competitor," Bombers Assistant Coach Chase Sanford said. "At Rudder, he was the kind of player every coach hopes to have in their program. I'm excited that Hunter will be coming home to pitch with us this summer."
Dobbins, who is currently in his freshman season with Texas Tech, where he is 1-0 with a save and a 6.43 ERA in five appearances. He has pitched in seven innings while striking out five.
