Brazos Valley Bombers News Release

Bryan/College Station, Texas - This summer, Coach James Dillard and Coach Chase Sanford will share the same dugout at Nutrabolt Stadium for the Brazos Valley Bombers. However, on Friday, the two coaches were on separate sides as Dillard's Bryan High School team took on Sanford and Rudder High School.

The game started off rough for Rudder as they committed four errors in the first few innings, leading Bryan to take an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. However, Rudder was able to come back in the middle innings, scoring six runs in the fourth inning, including starting pitcher Hunter Dobbins helping himself driving in a run during the rally. Rudder would tack on a couple more runs late and go on to win the game 11-2, combined with a 2-1 win earlier in the season, went on to sweep Bryan for the season.

The respect the two coaches share for each other is immense and will go a long way in helping a Bombers team seeking their sixth consecutive TCL title. "Facing Coach Sanford and Rudder is always a challenge because you know you are going to compete against a coach that has his players ready to go and his teams are always well coached. On and off the field, I consider Coach Sanford a great leader but more importantly a coach that is more concerned with coaching character instead of coaching for wins and losses. I look forward to spending the summer learning and exchanging new ideas with Coach Sanford, Coach Nelson, and Coach Nash. It's truly a great honor to be able to share the dugout with these three great baseball minds." Coach Dillard said on facing Coach Sanford. Coach Stanford had similar thoughts on facing and now coaching with Coach Dillard, "It's always fun and stressful to play Coach Dillard's teams. They are always aggressive on the bases and will put pressure on your defense. Coach Dillard cares about his kids more than just on the field and is a great leader. Each game is a battle, but before and after the game we always visit and catch up. James is a good friend and mentor to me and now we get to share a dugout instead of coaching against each other, it's going to be special."
