Rockford's "On the Waterfront Festival" is the largest music festival in Illinois. Festivalgoers have enjoyed entertainment by musicians, shopping at the World Marketplace, carnivals at the festival grounds and fun and excitement at Kid's Castle.
While at the Kid's Castle children under 12 can take part in over 30 interactive make-and-take activities. On Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 am to 6:00 pm kids can shoot baskets with the Lightning. Kids basketball jerseys, Lightning hats and player posters will be the prizes for every participant. Last year the Lightning awarded hundreds of mini basketballs and posters. This will be Lightning's second year as a participant in the Kid's Castle.
After a hard days work on Sunday of handing out prizes, Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo will be heading to Marinelli Field to watch the Riverhawks take on the Windy City at 6:05 pm. Daleo will catch up to Lightning power forward Sidney Holmes and watch as Sidney snaps off a fastball with the ceremonial first pitch. During the seventh inning stretch, Holmes and Daleo will lead the crowd in what should be considered a stirring rendition of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame". Immediately after the game, player and coach will represent the Lightning in a celebrity home run hitting contest. " I hope Sidney has eaten his Wheaties," said Coach Daleo. "I fully expect to win this contest, I have been training hard and have shown incredible power. I did not even have to call BALCO."
The next Lightning free agent camp is Saturday September 10th. The CBA Draft is Tuesday September 20th at the 10th Inning Bar and Grill. Lightning season tickets are now on sale.
