Bohm's Grand Slam Lifts Sharks over Holly Springs

June 24, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Wilmington Sharks News Release

With just a one run lead in the third, Alec Bohm hit a grand slam to widen the lead and push the Wilmington Sharks (12-9) past the Holly Springs Salamanders (7-14) by a score of 6-0.

Ward Coleman (Davidson) led off the bottom of the third with a base hit, and later came around to score on Cletis Avery's (Presbyterian) RBI single. With two outs, the Sharks loaded the bases for Alec Bohm (Wichita State), and he hit the grand slam to give them the 5-0 lead.

The Sharks added an insurance run in the seventh, when Hayes Nelson (Longwood) scored on a RBI single. Those were all the runs they needed as the Sharks pitching staff shut out the Salamanders, who could only collect two hits on the night.

The win went to Connor Riley (1-3). He pitched six scoreless innings with one hit, two walks and struck out six. Chandler Sanburn (0-2) took the loss, pitching four innings, allowing five runs, one earned, on three hits, two walks and striking out two.

The Sharks return home on Saturday to face Gastonia, when it will be Miracle League Night at the Shark Tank. The game will start at 7:05.
