June 24, 2016 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Peninsula Pilots News Release
HAMPTON, Va.- The Peninsula Pilots hit the road against the Wilson Tobs Thursday night, falling 4-0 in a rain-shortened game.
For Wilson, the bats of two Georgia Southern players came alive, with Logan Baldwin going 3-for-3 with one RBI, and CJ Ballard going 2-for-2 while scoring one run.
The Tobs jumped on the scoreboard first, scoring three runs in the second inning. Justin Bellinger (Duke) led off the inning with a walk, and Ballard doubled to advance Bellinger to third. Bellinger scored and Ballard advanced to third base on a groundout from Spencer Brown (High Point). Austin Fisher (Santa Clara) then scored Ballard from third on a fly-out to left field. After a rain delay and with two outs, Tyler Howsley (UC San Diego) walked and stole second base to put a man in scoring position. Howsley then scored after the Pilots committed an error trying to field a single from Baldwin.
Wilson touched the scoreboard again in the fifth inning. Baldwin doubled to left field to lead off the inning. After stealing third, Baldwin crossed home plate on a Pilots wild pitch, scoring the final run of the game.
With one out and a Pilots runner on base in the sixth inning, the skies opened up and the game was delayed. Eventually, it was decided that the rain was not going away, and the game was called after five and one-third innings with the Tobs leading 4-0, surpassing the minimum of five innings required by the Coastal Plain League for a complete game.
The Pilots come back home to War Memorial Stadium on Friday, taking on the Martinsville Mustangs for Bethel Baptist Night.
